A reciprocating pump which utilizes seven drive rods to transfer linear motion to the pump’s pistons or plungers.
Septuplex pumps are not as common as other pumps using fewer drive rods. In many applications, a single quintuplex, or two triplex pumps in parallel are used to meet flow requirements. Septuplex pumps are used in applications where flow variation and pressure pulsations are needed to be kept to a minimum.
Septuplex Pump Flow Characteristics
Septuplex pumps have roughly half of the flow variation of quintuplex pumps. The flow in a septuplex pump fluctuates between 97% and 101% (4% variation) from the average flow rate. There is an additional variation after the pump reaches its maximum flow rate at 101%. The flow will drop to 99% before returning back to its maximum, and then to its minimum. The maximum to minimum flow rate variation takes place seven times per crankshaft revolution.
